Public markets are always fun to visit. They tell you so much about a city — especially since it’s nearly impossible to go and not end up chatting with a local. The Rochester Public Market has fed the city since 1827.

You can get just about anything here and there are plenty of options for ready-to-eat foods. Even if you’re not tempted by any of the empanadas and baked goods, the people watching is stellar. Saturday tends to be the busiest days, while Thursday is a good day to avoid the crowds.

Parking can be a challenge on busy days, so use the free shuttle when you can. You can get the full scoop on opening hours on the city website. The prices and the selection are both fantastic.
